The Last of its Kind - The Rimutaka Incline

Post  sbowness on Tue 29 Mar 2016, 10:43 am

The Rimutaka Incline operated Fell engines to take trains up the 1 in 14 gradient up to the summit of the Rimutaka Hills north of Wellington. It was an extraordinary line, operating until 1955 when it was replaced with an equally extraordinary 9km-long tunnel. The route can still be walked as a rail trail. This documentary was made a few years ago now and gives a fascinating insight into the operation.

I hope you enjoy it.

Woops...
The link doesn't work.

Instead click on Downloads and search for Rimutaka Incline.
