Post  Twomanydjs on Wed 10 Apr 2013, 10:53 am

I am putting together a collection of Headboards to go with Justin's Pullman's so far i have got the Queen of Scots , Yorkshire Pullman and The Hook Continental.
The Queen of Scots and Yorkshire Pullman has been assigned to my A1, A3 & A4
The Hook Continental has been assigned to my B1 , B17 and Britannia.
So dos any one know what locos were assigned to The Eastern Belle, The Northern Belle & The Antwerp Continental also dos any one have any pics of the headboards.
Thanks Dave R

There is a picture here showing The Eastern Belle being hauled by a Class C1 4-4-2 No. 2811 circa 1930.

Umm... forgive me if I'm wrong (I do need my glasses checked Optitian ), but isn't that a B17 in the photo? Laughing
Not being rude to you Alec, but surely the NRM could see that the engine is a 4-6-0? RollOverLaughing

Having just poked through the online LNER Encylopedia 2811 is a B17 named Raynham Hall. Duh!

Oh dear, well as they say "life's a female dog and then you die!"

Well I suppose that constitutes three strikes now and that must mean I'm out. Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

Where's that sword?

Alec, this one isn't your fault. The NRM hasn't checked the image properly before putting the details up.
No harm done by you OK , it did give me a good giggle though. Laughing
If I hadn't known better I wouldn't have picked up on it. If I had found the photo, I would have done the same thing you did, so don't panic. I'm just wondering how may others have seen this photo and just accepted the information as being correct?

As for the 3 strikes, I never liked baseball (I prefer car racing). So you missed the Pit stop for this lap, just go around and get it right next time.

Hi Dave.

I've just downloaded and installed the JW_Headboards, and very nice they are too.

However, there's something in the back of my mind that says that, since they are Type ( Freight ), MSTS will restrict the speed they can travel. I think they need to be Type ( Carriage ).

Perhaps someone (Ian?) can confirm or deny that.

Bob.

Post  mikehendle on Fri 19 Apr 2013, 1:56 pm

Hi Dave,
The Antwerp Continental ran up to 1939,Eastern Belle 1929-39,Hook Continental 1927-87,The Northern Belle 1933-39 and the Master Cutler Pullman Train 1958-68 after it was transferred in 1958 from St Pancras to Kings X.
This means some BR Loco's are not suitable for some trains,I hope you don't mind me pointing this out. Question
Don't want to put my foot in it like I usually do on UKTS

Just a update re the Hook Continental, pre war it was either hauled by a B1,B12,B17 or GER Cluad Hamilton Class 4-4-0,it consisted of 11 coaches 2 were Pullman Cars, post war the train was hauled by B1 and Britannia class locomotives.Diesel Era Class 40\47's.

There was another Boat Train from Liverpool St - Harwich called the Scandinavian,so far I haven't managed to find out if it had Pullman Cars in the consist, again in LNER days it was hauled by a B1,and post war B1 and Britannia, Diesel Era Class 40\47's.

Mike

According to Wikipedia on the hook continental

"The service was restored to daily in the summer of 1947 with the arrival of the faster and more capacious "Arnhem" from the John Brown Shipyard on Clydebank.[9]
The Thompson B.1 class 4-6-0's took over the duties at that time from the B.17's and continued as the principal locomotive on the train until the "Britannia" 4-6-2 pacifics availability, after which they provided motive power for any relief services required until the withdrawal of steam locomotion in the Great Eastern area.[3] However, the locomotive that gave the class its' nickname, (6)1005 "Bongo", was not considered suitably named for "Hook Continental" duties according to one senior member of the management at Liverpool Street."
