MSTS - Helpful Facts and Links - Part 22 (Background, Loading, Logo and Details Screens)

This is the another part in the series of posts that are meant to give a simple history of MSTS, point people to the various links considered vital to maximising the performance, and in this part the appearance, of MSTS as well as allowing an understanding of the various components that make up MSTS.

I suspect that each and every one of us has a liking for a particular area of railways, be it steam, diesel, electric, UK, US, etc., etc. Therefore I imagine we would prefer our background/loading/interface screens to reflect this; e.g.

Not only are there tutorials describing how these can be achieved, but a number of people have generously uploaded their own creations for general use. I have certainly made use of these in order to replace the default options supplied with MSTS.

Firstly I will list the links to the tutorials that will allow you to create your own.

1. Located within Steam4me there is this tutorial that will allow you to create your own Start-up background screen, or alternatively there is this tutorial.

2. Located within Steam4me there is also this tutorial that will allow you to create your own Logo for the Route & Activity Screen.

3. Located within Steam4me there is another tutorial that will allow you to create your own Picture (Loco.ace) that is displayed when you press details in the Route and Activity section of MSTS.

Secondly here are some links for various screens that are available to download.

There is a selection of Interface, Background and Loading Screens from UKTS here and here.

Examples of start up screens can be found here and here.

Specific examples of Interface Screens are available such as this diesel version

or this steam version.

Interface, Background and Loading Screens are also available from Trainsim; e.g. Interface, Startup and Background.

I imagine similar options exist in many continental sites.

When installing and/or amending all or any part of MSTS it is strongly recommended that you create a back-up copy, because even with the best will in the world mistakes can and will happen. There’s many a “simmer” who can testify to that.
