Is there anybody there?

Post  rufuskins on Thu 27 Feb 2014, 4:29 pm

"Is there anybody there?" said the Traveller,
Knocking on the moonlit door;
And his horse in the silence champed the grass
Of the forest's ferny floor;
And a bird flew up out of the turret,
Above the Traveller's head:
And he smote upon the door again a second time;
"Is there anybody there?" he said.
But no one descended to the Traveller;
No head from the leaf-fringed sill
Leaned over and looked into his grey eyes,
Where he stood perplexed and still.
But only a host of phantom listeners
That dwelt in the lone house then
Stood listening in the quiet of the moonlight
To that voice from the world of men:
Stood thronging the faint moonbeams on the dark stair,
That goes down to the empty hall,
Hearkening in an air stirred and shaken
By the lonely Traveller's call.
And he felt in his heart their strangeness,
Their stillness answering his cry,
While his horse moved, cropping the dark turf,
'Neath the starred and leafy sky;
For he suddenly smote on the door, even
Louder, and lifted his head:--
"Tell them I came, and no one answered,
That I kept my word," he said.
Never the least stir made the listeners,
Though every word he spake
Fell echoing through the shadowiness of the still house
From the one man left awake:
Ay, they heard his foot upon the stirrup,
And the sound of iron on stone,
And how the silence surged softly backward,
When the plunging hoofs were gone.

Hi Alec,
It's very quiet, isn't it??!
Maybe everybody's busy running activities in Mid East Plus  Wink

Cheers,
Ged

That would be understandable!

Hi all,

I have too - makes a nice change from creating activities. I am very impressed with everything so far - I've only found one error of note and that is vehicles travelling along and through a bridge parapet!

I'm still here,

I am currently waiting on final OK's for the Golden Arrow Pullman set before that goes up.
Work is keeping me too tired during the week and on the weekends I haven't been able to get any peace to do any modelling (hopefully change this weekend).

I have just received a Heljan Class 128 model for my model railway, and it will become a future modelling project.

I have gotten Mid-East Plus as well, but haven't given it a major run yet (I did drive the Y6 down the Wisbech & Upwell Tramway).

There appears that UKTS is quiet once again. Not even a soul posting anything in the MSTS section of UKTS since lunchtime yesterday.
People must have led busy lives at the moment...

That appears to be the way of it at the moment, with MSTS being somewhat like a Fox Trot; i.e. slow-slow-quick-quick-slow! Personally I rarely post on UKTS these days preferring to use TSSH, but that too is not brimming over with posts. In the meantime I shall concentrate on LYR wagons - hopefully I can add some unique FreightAnims helped by Ian - with at least 4 nearly complete.

I'm afraid I too rarely post over on UKTS as there seems more input regarding MSTS over here. I do post if I can help anyone in anyway, but I tend to post all my workshop stuff here.

HI,

I am the same - I normally only reply to other peoples posts on UKTS. TSSH is my preferred forum and read most of the posts each day - its nice to see what others are doing. So far my only specific post topic is for my activities in which there should be another update soon.

When someone mentions the forums are quiet, my favourite response is...

"POST SOMETHING!"

Nothing will attract people more to a forum than a lot of posts on different topics. I don't mean posting spam for sake of posting, but coming up with thread ideas.

If someone logs on UKTS and finds the last MSTS post was 3 days ago, chances are they won't browse that forum.

If they log on and find it was 3 minutes ago, the odds of browsing forum go up.

If every time they log on there's new posts, the odds go way up they will browse the forums.

Both us and UKTS are to blame for the quiet MSTS forums over there. Them for making us feel we needed a different forum without censorship and us for making this a success!  Laughing  Wink

To hopefully prove my theory, I am going to post a topic over on UKTS in the next few minutes. I want you all to please go over there, read it, and then post. I'm not telling you the topic, but I bet it at least starts a discussion. When we did June month last year, the interest in that thread saw the MSTS forums much busier for a period and people posting (and posting in) all manner of MSTS-related threads.

Hi Niall,
I completely agree. I post over on UKTS when I can, but I am guilty of posting more over on this forum.
I will go over and have a look now.
Cheers

A very good idea of yours Niall! And it appears to be waking a lot of people out from beneath the woodwork!

Thanks Andy.

All it takes is a good topic to get people talking and I did notice a few usernames at the bottom of the screen that I've not seen post in MSTS forums for a while. Hopefully some of them will come back and post their suggestions.*

Really pleased to see I wasn't the only one who thought of Doug Lee as a nomination. I had him in mind when I was writing the original post.

* However, it does kinda prove my point. A sudden flurry of posts does make people go take a look.

It's always difficult to decide whether to post the same item on both TSSH and UKTS, although I will nearly always chose TSSH for obvious reasons. I often consider that in fact I post too much, because as I have said before I tend to use TSSH as a form of social media.
I have also not renewed my UKTS premium membership and hence there isn't the same necessity to visit that site. I don't fancy waiting long periods of time for non-premium download, although I accept that that's the price I have to pay!
I always like to read about or see what others are doing, and experience great pleasure in seeing how projects are developing either by the written word or in the form of a screenshot. That doesn't have to be route or stock orientated, but can be on experiencing driving an activity.

It appears that MSTS in general have been really quiet lately. There has been very little MSTS activity happening at the moment - both for new releases and in the forums.

In fact, UKTS have been quiet as a whole, had few new releases than usual (just the few stuff for Train Simulator 2014), and even the forums have been quiet.

I contribute stuff for Borawian Railways and Glasgow Carlisle V4 routes, but the respective authors are too busy. I guess everyone has other commitments at the moment, and real lives do take time off our leisure.

However, I did have kept myself busy with MSTS projects (at least for now).

Could be the calm before the storm Alistair,remember we are all awaiting the pending releases of some new Community Cds.

Hi Alistair,
There are also some models that will be released very soon I would think.... If you don't know already Alec has been working on some L&Y Wagons and is now working on some Bulleid Coaches. I think Justin has something he is working on and also I have the MET 4TC and the 2 x Class 20's I have been working on.
So yes definitely the calm before the Storm and if truth be told, it sounds as though MT (Making tracks) are waiting for the release of OR.....
So I guess watch this space......

Don't worry we're all here - well in body if not in mind!!

My alter acronym "SWMBO" is keeping me away from the real deal of "MSTS" with a refurbishment of the bathroom. Thankfully the bulk of the work is done although I've got to trim the new blind to fit!

I'm hoping to finish off my coaches in the next week or so, as well as increasing the LYR wagon stock. In addition I'm trying to sort the BIN lighting for the last two FG DMU sets - single car Classes 121 and 129. At least the traditional games keep us in touch, and I must post another locomotive name.
