Hi Ged & All.

The only Activities giving me trouble are Mainline Trilogy Pt 2 and Broad Street Shuttle  (1) BSS is a Red Signal that wont clear  (2) MLT is about an Hour after a bit of Shunting i couple to my Wagons Change Cabs and the Loco will not go the revs increase but it is just as if the Brakes were on but they are not???
So i have decided to run them both again and see if the same happens before i do anything else as i have run a lot of the  MEP  Activites without any trouble so i just wonder if there is really any problem with my External Drive maybe i have done something wrong to cause these things to happen???  Sad

Probably not, mate. Just keep trying and if you still have no success, you know where we are Smile
i couple to my Wagons Change Cabs and the Loco will not go the revs increase but it is just as if the Brakes were on but they are not???
This is going to be a very silly question, but you have put the loco into forward (or reverse if that's the way it's going!), haven't you? If the loco has gears, don't forget to select first Smile

Ged

Hi Art,
You are a little late, but that won't stop the loco from moving!  I would have thought the worst that could happen is that the ground signal is against you.
If you haven't got it showing, please press F5 and tell us what is shown against Throttle, Reverser, Train Brake and Loco Brake.

By the way, have you noticed the trees swaying at Finsbury Park**? I thought my eyes were going "funny"!! Smile

Another "by the way" - I've just run this activity up as far as collecting the Parcels Vans, running MSTS from a USB-powered 5400rpm external drive using a USB 2.0 connection.  The only problems were the regular jerking as the hard drive was being read, which I couldn't stand for long!   The drive is fitted with a USB 3.0 connection, so I'm going to try that later - I don't expect it to be worse, but I don't know if it'd be any better - please stay tuned!!

Cheers,
Ged

EDIT : ** Apologies - not Finsbury Park, but the Royal Mail Depot, where the act starts  Embarassed

Hi Art.
When you dropped off your original set you should go forward light engine(remember to tab ground frame) and pick up the coaches in front of you-----Then change cab and head off back towards London. From here its just a steady run, don't rush or you will encounter Reds.

Sim starts 0915
arrival at WGC  0934----Shunting complete and leave by 0940---Sim ends at 1010 Smile

Hope this helps.

Hi Art,
First of all, I couldn't discern any difference between using USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 in the way MSTS runs.

Regarding your inability to move the loco after coupling to the Parcels Vans :
I seem to remember users having problems with the brakes not releasing after coupling to a consist. It was suggested that it was caused by the way the loco's brakes were used when coupling. I have tried various combinations of loco/train brakes applied/not applied but can't make this particular consist mis-behave! I asked previously to show what setting were shown on the first F5 display - can I now ask that, as you sit there in the non-moving loco, you press F5 (up to) 4 times to get the consist brakes status display; the right-hand column should all be 0.00, or gradually reducing to that value. If they are not, that is why you can't move; try applying the brakes again, then release them.

Cheers,
Ged

Hi Art,
Re Broad St Shuttle It is fatal to do a save at Bowes Park, also make sure you trip the reversing point in lay back siding,go slow as it is quite near the buffer, also put it in 1st gear and open the throttle a bit before you release the brakes,if you slip back the signal won't change, now take a steady run,and watch the signals they should change from yellow double and green before you get to them, the only place you should get a red is at Dalston Junction, where you will be held for a emu to pass, then it's a steady run into Broad St where you will arrive a few minutes late.

Hi Art,
Reverse slowly onto the coaches with the brakes off, try between 2-3mph when you buffer up to the coaches, now put in neutral, and brakes on,change cab ends, then put it into forward and release the brakes hopefully it should move.
I presume the loco is a diesel.

Art,all i did was bring in the Postal coaches making sure you trip the reverse point, reverse the train all the way back to the RP at the Platform, its quite close to the buffers, trip this ,then drop off the complete rake.At this point again engage forward, but beware of the Ground Frame, you will have to tab through it.Proceed the full length of the yard and pick up the complete set of Coaches, again making sure to trip the RP.Make sure you are stopped, put into Neutral I don't think you have to release the brakes to swap ends !!!!!!!!!!
NOW change Cabs, engage forward, release the brakes and away to go via the Platform and loop out onto the Mainline.Seeing all the interest on here today I did the act again without any Hiccups.
From this point on,if you are on time you should not need to rush,if you do you keep coming up on single Ambers and the odd Red.
I really hope this helps, but its awkward to offer suggestions when the activity works well for me. Regards Roger (fingers crossed)

Hi Art
Your MT Pt2 problem sounds like the problem we identified some weeks ago with MEP-MK1-TC-BG.WAG, and I notice that there are lots of examples of this item in loose consists in this activity.  Have you 'fixed' this file yet?

If not, look in folder MEP_MK1_TC.  Find the above *.wag file and copy it  -  just in case.  Now open the original with a text editor and scroll down, looking for a line with just (26) on it (it is line 45).  Delete this line and save the file.

Try the activity again and see what happens.

Hi Martin,
That was a great bit of detective work  Smile
I think the reason most of us didn't have the problem is because, when it was first raised, we amended our wag file. Art has recently re-installed MEP so was back to square one!

Thank you - I'm now going to put a note in my MEP DVD case, and I suggest others do the same!

Following on ...

... what I can't understand about the MSTS community is the failure to upload a fix quickly when there is a problem which prevents a particular route (or whatever) working properly.  This situation is similar to the problem with SCP I solved about 2 years ago (a dodgy church that caused TS to crash)  -  still no fix uploaded.

This prevents people who don't scour the forums for fixes, or who feel uncomfortable editing files (perhaps even more so in the case of (SCP) route files), actually getting full functionality from their TS.  In other games I spend time with it would be quite usual for the problem solver to upload a fix, but I get the impression that this would be frowned upon by the MSTS community  -  because of permissions issues.

Rant over.

Hi
Being a glutton for punishment, and wanting to confirm that it was the errant line 54 in the Mk1 BG vehicle which caused the problem, I restored the ( 26 ) to that line.

Would you believe it!!  I got the same problem as Art had!

Checking the F5 display, all brakes are off.  I don't know what MSTS thinks the ( 26 ) refers to; the next section is the Adheasion / Friction section, so maybe it's one of those parameters? It needs someone with an in-depth knowledge to sort it out!!  Shocked

Cheers,
Ged

Mike

I would upload a SCP fix but it would be against UKTS rules (unless I got permission, and I'm not sure I could be bothered with that) and I find UKTS a useful resource so I wouldn't want to get a lifetime ban for rule-breaking.  And they do seem very hot on permissions over there, even when it is a fix rather than plagiarising someone else's work.  Even worse, in my view, is that the SCP DVD still has the error, even though Peter at UKTS has had to reply to a number of queries about it in the UKTS Site Admin forum.  It isn't as if they don't know about it.

Also, have a look at Geoffrey Swindale's recent post about an error in the EH2 IC225s.  The absence of reply to his question speaks volumes.

Ged

Yes you are a glutton for punishment.  If you recall, the problem first manifested itself after starting a saved activity, although the activity had worked properly before the save.  It looks to me (completely untrained, and therefore just guessing) that it has something to do with the way MSTS holds its data in memory (presumably in some abbreviated form).  The problem becomes an issue after some 'trigger' like coupling up, or restarting from a save.

It's probably easier to keep fixing the problems as they arise.

Re: MEP Route.

Post  rufuskins on Tue 06 May 2014, 7:02 pm

As far as I can tell the ( 26 ) is a "leftover" from other similar WAG files; e.g. in other MEP_MK1 files there is this line

BrakeCylinderPressureForMaxBrakeBrakeForce( 26 )

whilst in the offending file the similar line reads

BrakeCylinderPressureForMaxBrakeBrakeForce( 64 )

followed by the rogue ( 26 ) on the next line.

I would therefore hazard a guess that the ( 26 ) got missed during editing. Such things often happened to me with my FG DMU work!

Repetition of errors is relatively common because many of us use Route Riter or similar as a means of checking, although some errors don't necessarily cause MSTYS to throw a wobbly. Perhaps we could start a thread in TSSH, or if you prefer UKTS, pointing out such errors and their solution?

I wouldn't have thought that this would break permissions/copyright rules, but who knows what sort of reaction might be generated . . . .

Rant over.

File ID 31758 North Berwick Shuttle which was originally written for the DVD but failed includes a patch to fix the problem that you correctly identified. I did ask Pete about permissions at the time and he gave it the go ahead. I can't remember if my patch was exactly the same as your fix (I think I just removed the church),
If you want to upload a patch ask Pete about it but bear in mind that my patch will overwrite your one.
The reason it failed was the Whitwell Church but nobody was certain of that at the time.

The act also includes a bespoke renamed .Eng file for 67611 and I did not seek permission for this.
The fact is that .Eng and .Wag files are originally generated by TSM and as such I would suggest are not copyright as long as you avoid overwriting the original one provided by the loco author. The same would apply to including AI locos where they were not provided, but bear in mind that GWR, 2Cyl and 3Cyl sound set steam locos require the sound changing to the AI version.

Hi All.

Well at last  I have made it back to Broad Street without a Red to stop me. Had to run it twice as I rolled back at Bowes Park which would have caused a Red as i have been told. Laughing Laughing
