Puffing Pannier

I'm not sure where if anywhere this Photo should be put,.Should the Moderators wish to remove it or place it else where that is fine.
I can tell you nothing about the picture not even who took it,but I find it interesting and hope you do too.

Hi Roger, I have moved this to the real railways section for you.  OK

Very interesting pic, I wonder if they were using very dusty or poor quality coal to get so much smoke.  Smile

I don't know how, but I know some drivers deliberately make more smoke for the benefit of photographers, I think they may have overdone it here.  Laughing

Thanks for that Mark,I'm pretty sure they were not using welsh steam coal, more likely Irish Peat by the looks of it (LOL) Very Happy

They were probably using cheap Polish coal or that Brown German coal (lignite)  Dodgy

Great Photo - To me with firing experience that could also be over firing and the blower not opened up!  Shocked

Hi,
In 2013. London Transport held "Steam on the Met" events to celebrate 150 years in May and September.  9466 appeared in both.  There are several videos on Youtube; although not on the scale of Roger's photo, this one shows quite a lot of smoke from 9466!!

Cheers,
Ged

THe way they got lots of smoke on the steam specials I worked was to throw in the rubber pads that fit between the sleeper and the rail.

I was asked to look out for them when walking round the train.

Yes, rubber would do it, wasn't it a bit smelly though Ian?
