MSTS - Helpful Facts and Links - Part 09 (Sound Camera Driver Aids)

Post  rufuskins on Mon 11 Feb 2013, 7:31 am

This is the ninth part in a series of posts that are meant to give a simple history of MSTS and point people to the various accessories/links considered vital to maximising the performance of MSTS.
This part looks at Sound, Camera and Driver Aids improvements, and includes links for additional information and download access:-

Sound
For information on sound improvements refer to Steam4me tutorials.

A strongly recommended update that significantly improves sound results, and can lessen the occurrence of MSTS crashes when using [F11], can be found here in the Steam4me library.

The file is labelled – soundcfg.dat - and should be located in the Global folder of Train Simulator.

Camera

As is well known using key [4] when driving your train allows an aerial view of the train and its immediate surroundings, however the camera that actually comes with MSTS can be considered somewhat restrictive. This has been addressed and a number of “hacks” to the camera option have been made available that allows more freedom when using it.

(MSTS Camcfg.dat - GOLD v4) is stated to give the best set of camera views for MSTS ever put together, and contains several requested improvements. It can be downloaded from here in the TrainSim.com library.

An indication of the changes can be seen here.

Driver Aids

Driver Aids refers to the display initiated by function key [F4] and is really a personal choice. There are a number of alternative options that allow more transparency; i.e. scenery, etc. can be seen through the panel.

Links for various driver aids can be found here, here, here, here, here or here

It should be noted that the above files can be downloaded from other sources.

When installing and/or amending all or any part of MSTS it is strongly recommended that you create a back-up copy, because even with the best will in the world mistakes can and will happen. There’s many a “simmer” who can testify to that.
