Warrington model railway exhibition.

Post  Markh5682 on Sun 19 Oct 2014, 5:20 am

Alec (rufuskins) and I visited the Warrington model railway exhibition. yesterday (sat) it was a nice day out and the weather was good, it was nice meeting up with Alec again, we had a good old natter which I really enjoyed, there was plenty to see and lots of exhibits at the exhibition, and some really nice layouts, it was very busy there with loads of people. Very Happy

I took the camera along with me to take some pics of a few of the layouts to share with you, I didn't use the flash, so the pics were taken with available light only which wasn't bad considering the venue was indoors, thanks to the exhibitors of the layouts I photographed, they were only too happy for me to take some pics of their layouts to share on here, hope you like them. OK

First a large layout of a modern electrified line set mainly in the BR blue era..............

This layout was set around a steelworks blast furnace, there were lots of people watching this so it was difficult to get a good viewpoint to take the pics, so these pics don't really do the layout justice but they do give you the general idea.

An American steam era layout which had some really well detailed scratch built locos and stock, not all pics are as sharp as I would have liked due to the available light, but you can still see the attention to detail.

Finally a modern era Swiss glacier express based layout with multiple layers and plenty of detail.

Thanks for looking, I hope you enjoyed them. OK

Yes Mark and I had a good day out. Surprisingly I didn't buy any books! Shocked Shocked Shocked There was a good variety of layouts at most gauges and covering UK, US and Switzerland - the latter was very well detailed as shown in Mark's photos. It was also noted that at least three of the layouts were up for sale.
We certainly had a good chat about all things railway and MSTS, and we hope to repeat the day out at another time.

Hi Mark,
Some lovely looking Layouts there. Unfortunately it is a bit far for me to go seeing as I am down South! I think the last time I visited a Model Railway Exhibition was about 10-12 years ago when I was a member of Tonbridge Model Railway Club! Do you have a Layout Mark & Alec?
Cheers
Andy

Hi Andy.

I don't have a model railway layout, Have been to 2 exhibitions with Alec this year, but prior to that it was almost 40 years since I went to a model railway exhibition, I have also seen a couple of permanent tourist attraction style layouts a few years back.

You could say that MSTS is a huge virtual model railway with its ability to allow you to create your own content, I have seen some small train set style routes in the past. OK

Andy
Like Mark I don't have a model railway layout due to a combination of lack of space and money. Admittedly I could create a micro style layout using S/H stuff but I prefer MSTS and in particular TSM. I visit exhibitions both to see what's being done and also as a potential source for S/H books. Having gone with Mark to two I appreciate the value of the company of a like minded soul.
My long term aim is to build a virtual route based on Rochdale on or about 1920. It would effectively be an end-to-end type layout, and would have plenty of scope for train movement in both directions - there was a total of 309 train movements per day through Rochdale circa November 1920 comprising 120 goods and 189 passenger (62 goods + 94 passenger down and 58 goods + 95 passenger up). I have the times of arrival/departure for the trains as well as destination. What I don't have is consist composition but I will be trying to ascertain that in time. Apparently slip carriage working was also being carried out!

Mark and I went last year. I wasn't planning a visit this year as I'm in Ramsbottom the following Saturday at an LYR Society AGM, which includes a trip on the ELR - got to be paid for of course! In addition Mark and I are going to Southport on the 7th November, so it wouldn't be easy getting an additional day pass from SWMBO! Still hoping to get across to Wakefield at the end of November?
