MSTS Route Editor and MSTS BIN

Post  rufuskins on Tue 20 Jan 2015, 7:13 pm

I have read elsewhere that there is some thought that having MSTS BIN installed can cause problems using MSTS Route Editor. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

I haven't used the route editor for some time now, but I don't remember having any issues with Bin installed, (that's not to say there isn't) from what I can understand you can place more items per tile under bin, however, it might be a good idea to have a non bin MSTS installation to build your routes in, especially if you want to release it to the community, as the finished route would work on all MSTS installations bin or not, I'm not sure if building a route under bin would cause any conflicts when trying to run the route on a non bin MSTS setup.

Alec,
Where did you find this Information? I have BIN Installed and I don't have an issue with Route Editor...... Infact it never seems to crash for me... I do the saves though as suggested. But surely everyone installs BIN? (Why would you not?)
Cheers
Andy

Hi,
I've seen some routes where it's specified that the Bin patch should be present before it is installed. This is, presumably, because the route was created with the help of MSTSBin.

Cheers,
Ged

I noted this in a post by Big Vern HERE, although I haven't found the referenced comments on TrainSim! I was merely looking to confirm that this was yet another red herring so to speak!

Hi Alec,
I've never heard that one before. Thanks for sharing. Will certainly keep a look out for this one as the Route grows.... I wonder if it was just an Installation problem? I wonder now he has done a fresh Install if he Installs BIN again it will do the same thing?
Cheers

Hi All,
All of my routes have been built with either 1.7 and 1.8 Bin versions installed. Sometimes, during building, I may even swop over versions.

Of course there is a chance that a particular configuration might make RE crash, but I have built various routes on XP and W7 on 3 different computers with no problem.

RE will crash/freeze whenever it feels like it, you learn to live with it, you make loads of back ups, you work around it, but, as in the words of Capt. Mainwaring: you 'don't panic' Very Happy .

Ged is quite right that Bin is often suggested as necessary to run some routes. A quote from somewhere states; 'Better in-game memory managment resulting in smoother play and the ability to load and run larger, more complex routes.' I'm pretty sure, it allows more objects and lights(signals) per tile to be added without crashing the route when running trains.

Cheers
