Understanding Track Monitor

Post  sbowness on Fri 20 Feb 2015, 8:42 am

I'm using Rick Foss's version of the Track Monitor, which is a great tool:

One thing I've noticed is that the speed limits on the left are in different colours and are often offset. I've found a topic that talks about the offset but I haven't been able to find anything that explains why some are green and some yellow.

Is anyone able to enlighten me, please?

Thanks

Hi Stephen, go over to the USA site Trainsim.com and enter HUD1.zip in the file search box.
This will give you a file to download and this explains what things do in the Track Monitor
Display and may help you to change things to what  you want.

Hi Stephen, may I wish you a belated welcome to the forum.Could you please tell me where you found the Topic about the offset,as that is something I have often wondered about.I always use Ricks Monitor, but information about it seems to be scarce to say the least. Regards.....Neanderthal

Hi Roger

Many thanks for the welcome.

I had to go digging and found it here:

http://www.trainsim.com/vbts/archive/index.php/t-211349.html

It's the post from silvermeteor at 12-15-2006, 03:22 AM. It's actually quite sensible when you read it.

Cheers

Hi Bob

I took a look at that file and it seems to be talking more about the HUD (F5) than the Track Monitor (F4).

Cheers

Hi Stephen, looking again in the GUI folder, then the Driver Aids File, open this file up
and scroll down until you see the Monitor.dat file.
Open this up and you will see all the sections that relate to the Track Monitor details, I've
never altered any of the colours in that file but I assume that they work exactly the same as
the HUD display ones.

Hi Bob

I've taken a look at the monitor.dat file and that does make reference to signal limits, so it may be that's why some are yellow. However, I'm not sure about that. I can't really understand the file.

Hi Stephen,
If you're using Rick's Driving Aids, this is how the speed limits are displayed :
The very next speed limit post is shown in green just to the left of the track; the next-but-one speed limit is shown in yellow, slightly to the left of the green one. All subsequent "normal" speed limit posts are shown in yellow just to the left of the next-but-one post. In their infinite wisdom, Microsoft have allowed up to 20 mileposts to be displayed! As you move along the track and you pass a speed post, the next two posts move slightly right with the very next one turning green - and so it goes on. Temporary speed limits are shown in orange at the extreme left of the display and don't move. There are also signal speed limits which are shown in red, but I haven't seen one, so not sure where it's displayed.

Cheers,
Ged

Hi Ged

Thanks for that. Who would have thought that it was something so simple? Here I was trying to infer cryptic meaning to the colour scheme...

Cheers

Hi Stephen, looking for another file I came across this file also from the
Trainsim.com site and it is by the same author as HUD1.
The file to look for is trkmon21.zip, so have a look at this one instead.
