Hi All.

Thinking of going for a new PC and was wondering about MSTS would it have to be installed again from nothing or is it possible to transfer it in some way from this PC to another one??????

Hi Art.

I have done this a few times, it is a little time consuming, but relatively easy to do.

The way I did it was to.......... make a new install of MSTS from the disks onto the new computer, then on the old PC I unstored everything and copied my existing MSTS set up onto an external hard drive, then copied it from the external drive to the new computer, click "yes" to overwrite, make a new install of trainstore on the new PC, install any other things like route riter, and that's it.

Follow the tutorial on Steam4me when installing it onto the new computer http://msts.steam4me.net/tutorials/installing_msts_w7.html#install for windows 7/Vista.

If you are installing onto a windows 8 PC I'm sure someone will know how to do that (if it's any different from windows 7 that is)

Hi Art,
If you can, try and get windows 7 on your new computer,if you look on trainsim.com hardly anyone who has windows 8 on their computer can get MSTS to work, even following the steam4me instructions

Hi Art, when I got my new computer it had Windows 7 as the operating system but I was
used to XP like you've got on your old computer.
Taking the suggestion from the late Doug Lee, I got it dual-booted for a little extra cost and
now when I fire up the computer, the first thing it asks which system I want to run either
Windows 7 or XP.
I had kept my XP Licence Disc from when I bought my original computer and the shop were
able then change the computer to ask which system you want to run, normally a computer only
has one and goes straight to main desktop screen but with mine I get a middle screen before it
loads the system I want to run.
It doesn't take very much time to do this but I find it does what I want and can change easily
to Windows 7 after clicking on the Start Icon and clicking on the right pointing arrow next to
the Shut Down text and selecting Restart from the menu .
I installed MSTS again when in the XP screen and also anything extra to do with MSTS like
new Routes and Stock as well as Routes while in that screen and found that most automatically
load into correct drive, any that don't it is easy to alter the drive letter from say "C" to "F" which
is where MSTS now resides.
So really I've got the best of both worlds, a fast computer but using XP for MSTS and it
runs well, at first I don't like the filing system of Win 7 and after 6 years of using XP I know
exactly how it did things and I preferred to keep it that way.
